Frequently Asked Questions

Enhancements & Specialized Modalities

What is Reiki Energy Infusion? Reiki is a non-invasive energetic modality that supports the body’s natural ability to heal. During an infusion, Dr. Mary uses gentle touch (or hovering) to help balance your energetic centers. It is an excellent addition for those facing high levels of NYC stress or emotional fatigue, as it promotes a state of deep, restorative calm.

How does Sound Healing work? Sound Healing uses specific frequencies—often from tuning forks or singing bowls—to interact with the body’s cellular vibration. In TCM, we use sound to calm the Shen (spirit) and move stagnant Qi. For performers, this can be particularly helpful in grounding the nervous system before a show or during a high-stakes rehearsal period.

What is Tui Na Therapeutic Massage? Tui Na is a form of Chinese medical massage that uses rhythmic compression and stretching along the meridians. Unlike a standard spa massage, Tui Na is highly functional; it is designed to move “stuck” energy and is a powerful tool for physical recovery in our Backstage Recovery and Freedom & Flow sessions.

What are Gua Sha and Cupping? Both are techniques used to move blood and Qi. Gua Sha involves gently scraping the skin with a smooth tool to release the fascia and improve circulation. Cupping uses suction to pull stagnant blood to the surface, allowing fresh, oxygenated blood to nourish the muscles. Both are essential for clearing the deep physical tension that stagehands and performers often carry.

What is Moxa (Moxibustion)? Moxa involves the burning of the herb mugwort near specific acupuncture points. The goal is to introduce deep, penetrating heat into the body to strengthen the immune system and warm the meridians. It is particularly effective for those who tend to feel “chilly” or suffer from chronic, cold-type pain.

How do the aesthetic enhancements like Microdermabrasion and LED Light Therapy fit into TCM? At M Center, we believe that external radiance is a reflection of internal health. Microdermabrasion and LED Light Therapy provide immediate physical benefits to the skin’s surface, while the accompanying acupuncture addresses the internal imbalances that cause skin issues in the first place.
